AmeriCorps Natural Areas Volunteer Coordinator

Mallory Sage joined the center staff in September 2022 and serves with Green Iowa AmeriCorps until August 2024. She is a Waterloo, Iowa native. She graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture, with a minor in sustainability. Prior to becoming an AmeriCorps Land and Water Steward, Mallory worked at a local plant nursery and garden center, at a design and build company, and at a handful of landscape architecture firms across Iowa.

About her career goals, Mallory says:

"Since studying landscape architecture, I have taken a great deal of interest in the human impact on the landscape, including how we hurt it and how this profession handles the liability to help it. Part of diversifying my work experience is to gain more knowledge in general and specifically about native ecosystems and processes. In the future I am hoping these experiences and this knowledge will allow me to responsibly address the issues that arise when landscape converges with infrastructure."
