F.W. Kent Park boasts many high-quality, beautiful prairies of various ages. We will visit a variety of these, some of which are restored native remnants, others that have been planted on previous farmed crop ground. Dave Wehde, who is experienced in restoration and has directed the natural resource management at Kent Park since 1987, will compare and contrast the two types of prairies and identify wildflowers. Conservation staff will also discuss restoration and management techniques used by Johnson County Conservation staff. Transportation from site to site will be via hayrack. Please remember to dress appropriately, including long pants, closed-toe shoes, and any other measures to reduce exposure to ticks.
This field trip is sponsored by Friends of Johnson County Conservation, Iowa Native Plant Society, and Johnson County Conservation.
